Teether offers the most reliable model of the moment, a heavy-duty table
built from carbon steel that is
ready to accommodate users weighing up to 300 lbs. The package includes all the accessories required for a safe inversion, and the company has continuously perfected them over 40 years of activity, so they can comfortably match users of different heights and weights. The materials are all ultra-high-quality, with excellent resistance to wear.
Aerospace-Grade Ankle Lock Security
This machine will turn you with your feet up and your head down, so, understandably, you need a guarantee that the safety mechanisms won’t fail under pressure causing you to fall and injure yourself. The unbeatable guaranty the FitSpine LX9 offers is that the ankle lock handle is made from aerospace-grade stainless steel, so it isn’t only able to sustain the weight of the user but it is immune to corrosion and rust, so you can continue to use the table with the same certitude that it won’t fail even after many years. This feature is lacking in the Teeter EP-560, which nonetheless still has a very reliable locking mechanism and is similar to the FitSpine LX9 in many aspects. We previously included the EP-560 in our top (it was ranked third), but since the LX9 is so similar yet superior, we decided to upgrade to this better version instead.
- Wrap-around design – both models are equipped with the patented Teeter ankle cuffs that go around the ankle and secure it as comfortably as possible. This design reduces the pressure that is put on the ankles and provides extra confidence for the individuals who are trying this model for the first time.
- Hard outer shell – the exterior of the cuffs is made from hard plastic, which prevents accidental side release.
- Thick foam liners – the interior is made from dense foam that simply takes the shape of the leg.
- Ankle comfort dial – this feature allows you to rotate the foot platform to a lower or higher setting until the ankle cuffs arrange around the smallest portion of your ankle. This allows for your weight to be more evenly distributed, making the session safer and more comfortable.
FDA Approved as a 510(k) Medical Device
The Teeter tables are the only ones on the market to be certified by the FDA as having beneficial health effects when used to treat the following affections:
- Herniated disc disease
- Degenerative disc disease
- Sciatica
- Spinal stenosis
- Spinal degenerative joint disease
- Muscle tension and spasm
- Facet syndrome
- Back pain
Smooth Inversion Makes It Easy to Use for Beginners
This is a premium model not with an extra-strong steel frame that can be adjusted to match users with heights between 4’8” and 6’6”. It comes with two sets of handles: the shorter traction handles and the stretch handles, which are extra-long, allowing for the body to extend optimally. But what makes it the best of all is the smooth inversion process that is ensured by the premium EZ ankle tether, which is pre-marked, so you can easily pick the angle at which the table should invert. The options are 20, 40, and 60 degrees.
Compared to one of its biggest competitors, the IRONMAN Gravity 5000, this model also distinguishes through a set of features that recommend it as a better choice:
- FlexTech bed – the foam is lacking completely, but the firm surface of the bed is still very comfortable. Teeter motivates their decision of not going with foam padding by arguing that foam lets the body sink and doesn’t provide the same benefits for the spine as a more rigid surface.
- Acupressure nodes – these are accessories, you can add them or remove them completely. They are great for releasing muscular tension that leads to pain.
- Adjustable lumbar bridge – it is once again not padded, offering a better position for spine decompressing.
The same smooth inversion is grated by other Teeter products, all of which we previously featured on our list. However, we decided to stick with the FitSpine LX9 alone since it’s the best product this brand has produced to date. Moreover, as you will see in the comparison table below, the Teeter FitSpine LX3 and the Teeter EP-560 are fairly similar to the entry that graces our top spot. In fact, all three models can support users who weigh 300 pounds tops and aren’t taller than 6’6”. There’s the same quality cushioning featured by all of them, and even the steel build coincides.

Performance Results – What Do Experts Say?
The Teeter FitSpine LX9 is by far the most luxurious, stable, and strong inversion table that is available at the moment. I was able to tell, since I was assembling it, that the weight limit is well evaluated, and that it can perform the same, even when a 300-lb. individual lays on it. In fact, my quick research showed that this monster has a safety rating of 400% for the maximum weight. I don’t see how it can get more secure than that.
Getting on the table was easy, just the way they show it on the short video on their website. I laid down, secured the cuffs around my ankles with the stainless steel handle, and I was ready to invert. The ankle holders are incredibly comfortable considering that they need to sustain your weight and a good deal of pressure will be put on your ankles no matter what.
At first, I inverted at a 20-degree angle, just to test the bed, which was firm but easy on the skin and quite comfortable. The lumbar bridge does help a lot in maintaining the right position. Over two weeks of using it, I can now reverse at 60 degrees and maintain my position for about 9 seconds, and I can say that the table is working its magic on my office-hurt back, which is no longer experiencing the horrible pain it used to.

Pros:
- Ultra-strong carbon steel frame ensures stability
- Long ankle locking system makes it easier to adjust the cuffs around the ankles
- No padding on the bed for maximal spine decompression results
- The only brand that has an FDA certification
- Acupressure nodes included
Cons:
- It is a heavy product, so you may have some trouble carrying the package inside and even putting the parts together
- The 300-lb. weight limit doesn’t make it fit for heavier users
Verdict:
Teeter is by far the best company to go with when choosing a gravitational traction product, and this model is the top of their line. The frame is built from carbon steel, so it can sustain users weighing up to 300 lbs., and the ankle locking system is one of the most secure and comfortable you could find. Besides the FDA approval that already offers it a great advantage compared to its competitors, it also comes with an ultra-strong locking handle that makes adjusting the ankle cuffs an easy job.

- Indicated for: Back pain, muscle tension, herniated disc, sciatica, muscle spasm, and so on

The greatest advantage this chair offers is that it makes it easier to get in and out of it. Basically, you take your seat on it as if you would on a regular chair, place your feet between the two foam roller rows and use the lever to secure them in place. For extra safety, the unit
includes a lap belt as well. From this point forward, it is safe to lean on your back until the backrest aligns with the seat.
- Multiple safety features – the apparatus is provided with two large handles on the sides you can grab to preserve your balance, and you can select the angle at which you want to invert by using the strap underneath the seat.
- Customizable height – due to the tuning mechanism that is placed under the seat, you can modify the chair’s height so it matches yours. It is fit for users who are up to 6’ 6” tall and don’t weigh more than 250 lbs. We couldn’t help notice that the weight capacity is lower than the one offered by the Teeter FitSpine LX9 and Teeter EP-560, which shows that this model is not a good fit for weightier users.
- Tough construction – the steel is solid, and the welds are qualitative. The upholstery is resistant to wear and soft, covering a layer of foam that is just thick enough to reduce the discomfort while ensuring that the therapy is working. The feet are provided with rubber floor protectors that function as stabilizers as well.
The warranty, in this case, is 3 years on the frame and 90 days on all the other components, and it is offered by a reliable manufacturer that is known to stand behind their products.
Pros:
- Ideal for users with low mobility due to the chair design
- Height adjustment system is easy to use
- Soft upholstery with an optimal layer of padding
- Incline angle can be adjusted
- Padded handlebars for more comfort
Cons:
- Not suitable for heavy users
- Quite challenging to put together due to the poorly-written instructions
Verdict:
This is a nice pick for seniors or users with mobility problems as it is easier for them to take their position in the chair. The safety features are dependable, and the comfort is ensured by the padded upholstery and handles. More control is provided by the angle adjusting strap, which ensures the chair will not rotate more than desired, making it difficult to return to the initial position.
A good way to cope with back pain is to stretch your body for 10 to 15 minutes every day. A stretching machine is our recommendation, as it can help you warm up all the muscles in your body without exposing yourself to injury risks.

- User height range: 4’10” – 6’6”
- Indicated for: Back pain
- Inversion range: 5 pre-set angles
- Foldable design:

Innova Health and Fitness ITX9800
After reviewing several models, we can confirm that it is among the most dependable. It features an
adaptable headrest cushion as well as a cushioned backrest for supplementary relief. Although it is a lightweight device, it
can handle individuals up to 300 lbs. and six feet and six inches in height. Both the headrest and back support are generously padded with soft foam. For supplementary comfort, there is also a lumbar pad.
One aspect most customers appreciate is that it comes with padded handles that make it easier for them to hold on when making a return to the initial position. The ankle system is also fitted with foam liners that ensure optimal comfort. The height adjustment tube comes in handy since you can set it to accommodate your exact height even after someone else who is taller or shorter has used the Innova ITX9800.
It has a 6-angle pin structure for increased safety and security that will allow you to set the incline angle between 15 and 85 degrees. Besides having dependable back support, it is also stable. It features a robust steel bottom and rubber slip-resistant floor stabilizers that will keep the table firmly in place while using it. The pledge offered is 1 year.
Before the ITX9800, we had two other Innova products in our top, namely the Innova ITX9600 and the Innova ITM5900. However, after testing the ITX9800, we concluded that it’s much more comfortable than its predecessors, making the inversion therapy that you benefit from more effective. We did save the important data about these previous models in the comparison table below so that you can compare and choose the exact model that best suits your budget and expectations. Other Innova models we tested and didn’t make it here because of the superior design and performance of the ITX9800 include the Innova ITX9700, the Innova ITX9600, and the Innova ITM4800, all of which you can learn more about in the following matrix.

- Good padding
Cons:
- It is difficult to fold up
- The putting together is tricky as the parts are not marked
Verdict:
It is inexpensive and a good choice worth taking into consideration. The fact that it comes half put-together is a major perk as you won’t waste too much time configuring it. The base is solid, the backrest is comfy, the ankle holders are easy to adapt. Overall, it is a good investment.

- Indicated for: Reducing back stress and stimulating circulation

Next in line, we have this incredible model that does wonders for your health. With a
robust steel frame and a robust base, it will give you peace of mind when being suspended upside down. The steel in its construction is so thick that it
can easily accommodate users with a weight of up to 350 lbs. It’s not the only model produced by IRONMAN that has this hefty weight capacity, the
IRONMAN Gravity 4000 that we previously ranked 5th in our top, and the
IRONMAN IFT 4000 boasting the same stat. But we will cover a bit more about these two alternatives from IRONMAN and a few other quality inversion tables this company produces later in this review.
- Cushioned bed – its back support is coated with soft and comfortable memory foam, which is preferred by the users who find the Teether rigid beds to be too harsh on their back. The vinyl upholstery is resistant to wear and can be easily maintained clean over the years.
- Lumbar pillow – similar to the lumbar bridge offered by the Teeter FitSpine LX9, Teeter FitSpine X3, or Teeter EP-560, this pillow offers support during the inversion. Unfortunately, it cannot be adjusted in any way, but you can remove it completely if you find it uncomfortable.
- Ratchet locking system – it has the long locking handle that is provided by our two top selections, so you will be able to lock and unlock the cuffs without putting too much effort into this operation.
- Customizable height – it was built for various user heights, so it can be adapted four feet and ten inches to six feet and six inches high.
- Stable on any type of floor – geared with a waterproof PVC mat and slip-resistant floor stabilizers made from rubber, this turned out to be amongst the most stable inversion tables out there. Its folding form makes it ideal for transport and easy storage.
If you are new to this niche, know that few brands release as qualitative products as IRONMAN does. We previously briefly mentioned a bit about the IRONMAN Gravity 4000 and IRONMAN IFT 4000, both products that it is worth spending your money on. However, while the IRONMAN Essex 990 and the IRONMAN Relax 550 might be a bit less impressive design-wise since the latter models only support 275 pounds tops, they too are worth looking into, especially if the budget is a bit tight. Check out the following comparison matrix and get a closer look at each product so that you find the right IRONMAN inversion therapy table for your demands and financial possibilities. After all, the Gravity 5000 might be their best model yet, but it’s not the only model worth acquiring, that’s sure.

- Suitable for heavier users
- It gives a great feeling of safety and stability

Cons:
- Weightier users found the ankle locking system to be rather uncomfortable
- Even if the design is foldable, the operation is not easy
Verdict:
One of our favorite models, it features attractive functions and settings. Solid, sturdy, and extremely stable, it can accommodate users up to 350 lbs. with a maximum of 6 ft 6 in. height. It is often used to palliate backaches, raise blood flow, and boost the immune system.

- Warranty: 1 year
Exerpeutic 975SL All Inclusive
This is the fancy Exerpeutic model, as you can tell by looking at the more comfortable bed, the ankle-lock mechanism, which is based on cuffs instead of the foam rollers and ankle cushions that are offered by the
Exerpeutic Inversion Therapy Table we previously featured in our top and ranked 8th. It is more solid as well, presenting a
tubular heavy-duty steel frame that is rated to sustain individuals weighing up to 350 lbs. Moreover, it is provided with
non-slip floor stabilizers that ensure that it won’t move an inch when used.
It comes with foam padding, which is pretty thick and perfect for users who don’t want to give up their comfort even when they find themselves turned upside down. The height range goes from 4’10” to 6’6”, so this is a good pick for most individuals, even for those who are taller or shorter than the average. Another nice aspect is the palm-activated Surelock ankle locking system, which adjusts the way the cuffs fit around your ankle with ease. It is the Exerpeutic’s version of Teeter FitSpine LX9’s roller system.
The ankle cuffs are comfortable, and this is due to the Airsoft technology this model integrates. More precisely, the interior of the cuffs is provided with empty pillows that get filled with air as the user is reversing, generating good cushioning, which you will need, specifically if you decide to go the full 180-degree. Our previous entry that we upgraded with the 975SL, specifically the Exerpeutic Inversion Therapy Table, as well as the Exerpeutic 4514 both grant the same 180-degree peak inversion angle. However, the same isn’t valid with the Exerpeutic 225SL that we tested but didn’t include since it’s not as comfortable to use, not as feature packed as the 975SL All Inclusive. See the matrix below to get a clearer picture of how these four Exerpeutic products compare to each other to better grasp why the 975SL is our favorite from this brand, but also have other options in case any of these alternatives are a better fit with your budget.

Pros:
- One of the toughest assemblies – can hold users as heavy as 350 lbs.
- The cuffs are easy on the ankles due to the interior air pillows
- For weightier users, a cushioned bed may be more suitable
- The height is easy to change
- You can invert up to 180 degrees
Cons:
- There is no way to know precisely to which angle you are inverting
- Taller users may struggle to reach the lever that locks their feet in, as it is quite short
Verdict:
You are looking at a nice mid-priced model that is tough enough to sustain heavier users. It has good padding if that’s what you are looking for, and the cuff securing system works as described. However, we wouldn’t advise this model for a novice, as the inversion angle is quite difficult to establish.
Best Inversion Table for Back Pain:
6. Health Gear ITM5500
Amazon Price
Specifications
- Construction: Heavy-duty gauge steel tube frame with non-marring floor caps with memory-style foam backrest
- Maximum weight: 300 lbs.
- User height range: 5’1” – 6’5”
- Indicated for: Relieving back pain, improving circulation
- Inversion range: 4 pre-set angles
- Foldable design:
- Highlights: Sur-lock easy in/out ankle support system
- Warranty: 1 year
At first glance, this is a comfortable model that looks good. It features durable construction that consists of a solid steel frame with non-skid legs. It
can hold users up to 300 lbs. whose height is 6ft. 5in. Before we jump to the pros and cons of this product, you will find that we
compared the ITM5500 to the Health Gear HGI 4.2, a different inversion therapy table from the same brand. We tested both products before putting together the top, but it was the ITM5500 that prevailed as the winner for its superior design quality despite the fact that the HGI 4.2 works for taller users too (
the difference is that the 4.2 works for users who are 6’6” in height tops, so it was not much of a step-up). For additional comfort, it features a cushioned backrest that includes
4” of foam that will reduce the pressure put on the body when turning at an angle of
20, 40, 60, or 90 degrees.
The ankle system enhances safety and improves table efficiency, as it includes a long locking arm similar to the one offered by the Teeter FitSpine LX9. As it is easier to reach, you won’t need to bend and put more pressure on your back when trying to lock or free your feet. In what concerns the locking mechanism, it doesn’t consist of cuffs but of a set of foam rollers that secure your ankles without hurting them.
Another nice bonus is the massage function that is accompanied by heat. This will help your muscles relax and cast spasms away. The fact that it comes equipped with a hand controller is a major perk as you will be able to adjust and control your massage session with ease.

- Foldable design
- Extra-long locking arm
- Thick, luxurious cushioning
Cons:
- The massager function is plain and not very useful
- The heat pad barely produces enough heat to feel it
Verdict:
Health Gear ITM5500 is another interesting piece of gym equipment that will help you relax your muscles and get rid of pains. It is specially made to alleviate pains, relax muscles, improve head, neck, and spinal alignment. It is easy to use due to the long ankle locker, and it is one of the most comfortable, featuring a 4” foam padding layer.
Best Inversion Table with Heat and Massage:
7. Body Xtreme Fitness
Amazon Price
Specifications
- Construction: Steel
- Maximum weight: 280 lbs.
- User height range: 5’1” – 6’5”
- Indicated for: Back problems, blood circulation, flexibility, back aches
- Inversion range: 3 pre-set angles
- Foldable design:
- Highlights: Multi- mode massage settings;
Rubber non-skid floor; 4-Position Adjustable Safety Pin
- Warranty: 1 year
Our next model is a pretty solid device that comes with a sturdy base and a well-padded backrest for supplementary soothing. Contrasted to the
Exerpeutic 975SL All Inclusive, this model is only
fit for users up to 280 lbs. with a height that ranges from 5 ft. 1 in. to 6 ft. 5 in. but it delivers the same improvements in the overall immune system and spine position. Besides, it also
reduces back problems, increases flexibility, relieves backaches, and promotes blood circulation.
The steel frame is strong and stable, and the table comes with non-skid feet that ensure it will not slip no matter the surface on which it is settled. You can set one of the 3 angles available depending on your experience – this model turns to 20, 40, and 60 degrees – and return by using the long handles on the sides.
The racing car pattern surely makes it a cool addition to your home, as it doesn’t look like a medical tool at all. Equipped with soft-touch foam handles and a 4-position adjustable safety pin system, this turned out to be a stable device. It also integrates a massage setting that can help you release tension in your back muscles. Overall, it is surely an option worth considering.
Pros:
- Modern racing-car pattern
- Provides maximum comfort due to the thick cushioning
- Great value for money
- Massage function with heating
Cons:
- Lower weight capacity
- A couple of customers reported that the massage function stopped functioning after a few months
Verdict:
This is an incredible model specially designed to help you solve your back problems. It features a modern design and comes packed with plenty of features. It has cushioned removable head pillows, massage settings, and soft-touch foam handles. For maximum stability, it features rubber slip-resistant floor stabilizers.
Best Inversion Table for the Money:
8. XtremepowerUS Premium Gravity Inversion Therapy Table
Specifications
- Construction: Steel
- Maximum weight: 300 lbs.
- User height range: 4’10” – 6’5”
- Indicated for: Posture improvement, spinal decompression, back pain relief, joint improvement, neck pain relief, increasing flexibility
- Inversion range: 180 degrees
- Foldable design:
- Highlights: Non-skid, composite feet; Padded ankle supports
- Warranty: 90 days
XtremepowerUS Premium Gravity Inversion Therapy Table
When assembled and ready for use, this XtremepowerUS inversion therapy table measures
44” long by 28” wide by 60” high. It’s pretty standard in terms of size, so it won’t take up more space than most tables do. Moreover, since you can
fold it after use, there’s the added benefit of efficient storage. Since we started off with the construction of this product, we must mention that
steel is used for the skeleton, the actual build. Therefore, you are guaranteed durability with this purchase, as well as the fact that it won’t rock easily when you use it.
Because of the heavy-duty build you can count on it to support 300 pounds tops. While it might be a bit more simplistic in terms of features and design quality compared to our runner-up, the Stamina 55-1550, this budget-friendly pick does have 50 pounds on it terms of user weight accommodation. It’s fairly surprising when it comes to user height compatibility seeing how it can host people who are from 4’10” to 6’5” tall.
Other than this, it’s pretty basic. But it’s the resistance during testing, the efficient spinal decompression, and the asking price that make it the best low-budget inversion table. The backrest is covered by a PU leather that feels soft against the skin and it’s padded on the interior for your comfort. Speaking of comfort, the foam roller ankle supports keep your ankles protected while you’re decompressing. Even the handrails are padded so that they feel soft to the touch.
There’s a strength limiting strap that comes in handy to set the table at the precise inversion angle you feel most comfortable with. In the package, you receive all the hardware you need to set it up, as well as instructions on how to proceed. Beware though, customers have complained about the assembly process. 10. Gravity Inversion Table
Specifications
- Construction: Steel
- Maximum weight: 300 lbs.
- User height range: 4’3” – 6’1”
- Indicated for: Back and neck pain relief, improves flexibility, stimulates the lymphatic system, improves posture, increases blood pressure, relieves pressure on the discs and nerve roots
- Inversion range: N/A
- Foldable design:
- Highlights: Height adjustment lever; Massage waist pad; Automatic presser device; Anti-fall shoulder pad
- Warranty: 1 year
There is one issue with this Gravity inversion table that we must highlight from the start because it makes the product incompatible with a range of users. The issue we are talking about is the
6’1” peak user height it can accommodate. Other than this, there’s not much else that we can comment on the product negatively. Now let’s turn to the positives. For one,
it can support 300 pounds tops just like most high-end inversion therapy tables do. This resilience is granted by the
heavy-duty steel used in the product’s manufacturing.
It is fitted with anti-fall shoulder pads for your safety, ensuring that you won’t slip off when you’re hanging at a 90-degree angle and for one reason or another, your feet slipped from the holders in which you insert them. While comfort is grated with any product of the sort, this Gravity model does have the upper hand since there are three layers of material used for the backrest, which is then wrapped in a comfy high-density PU leather that is resistant to tear. The aforementioned three layers consist of a high-density sponge layer, high-elastic pearl cotton EPE, and high-elastic foaming surface. Because of this design aspect, although it’s much cheaper than our top-rated picks, we feel compelled to liken it to the IRONMAN Gravity 5000 in terms of comfort.
Pros:
- Multi-layer backrest for extra comfort during use
- Comfy anti-fall shoulder pads keep you safely in place when you’re at a 90-degree level
- Perfect for strengthening the lower back muscles
- Foldable design helps save space
Cons:
- Issues with stability when you mount it
- Max user height is 6’1”, less than most of the products we listed and reviewed
Verdict:
The greatest emphasis with this product is put on comfort, and this is best seen in the multiple layers of the backrest. It will be a pleasure to rest your body against the surface, and with time, when you get better accustomed to inversion therapy and start decompressing at steeper angles, you won’t even feel the time passing.

You will be able to incline at angles from 20 degrees to 90 degrees without worrying that you may fall. What Are Inversion Tables?
This technique is not something new, but for those with spine pain, placing the feet higher than the head can be extremely beneficial. A few years ago, several specialists have shown that
the use of this inversion equipment reduces muscle activities and painful compressive forces on the spine as well. As compared to other therapies that have the same subject, inversion therapy provides a traction force that decompresses the spinal discs. Most specialists highly recommend it because it is efficient and safe. There are so many models that can help you experience this technique that it is quite difficult to choose only one product. However, the most common units used to hang reversed are the tables and chairs.
Although they provide a plethora of health gains, the tables are not suitable for everyone. For some people, the hanging process can be very aggressive. Others find that the technique too intense and too painful on their ankles and knees. Besides, many people claim that the process is a bit difficult because they need a second person to assist them while inverting. However, most people agree that a quality inversion therapy table can do wonders for your health.
A great alternative to the inversion recovery table is the inversion chair, like our runner-up, the Stamina 55-1550 InLine. The difference between the two inversion products is that the chair can be easily used alone, while the table requires assistance. Doctors recommended this product instead of a table because it provides better posture support and control for the lumbar spine and pelvis.
However, neither of these two inversion pieces of gym equipment should be used by those people with heart or circulatory conditions. Therefore, if you are thinking about trying this technique, make sure you see a doctor or a specialist.
How Many Times a Week to Use an Inversion Table
You understand
how inversion therapy works and are aware of the multiple
benefits of using an inversion table. Aside from getting your own inversion table, there’s one thing left for you to grasp, and that is proper use. This implies pacing and understanding that frequency matter most to fully benefit from inversion therapy and stay away from the potential
negative effects it can pose. Frequency tops duration, but let’s dive into the topic further to make you understand how to decompress with this product.
How Long Should You Do Inversion Therapy Using the Table?
As pointed out in a study done by chiropractic experts, just 3 minutes of inversion therapy have a range of positive health effects, including elevation of intraocular pressure, central retinal arteral pressure, blood pressure, and heart rate. If you are just beginning though, you shouldn’t force yourself beyond the 1-2 minute mark. Decompress for as long as you feel comfortable and stop as soon as any sort of pain pops up.
As we mentioned earlier, frequency is more important than duration. Therefore, it’s best that you use the table multiple times per day for short time periods rather than push yourself to reach the 3-5 minute mark in one go. With time, when you get more comfortable with inversion and your body gets accustomed to this therapy, you can invert for up to 30 minutes per day. Just apply the same rule, break down those 30 minute in multiple sessions across the day. Keep in mind that there is a peak threshold that you must abide by regardless of how well you are handling inversion therapy, and that is limiting sessions to 15 minutes tops.
How Many Times a Day Should You Use the Inversion Table?
What’s important is that you use the table in the morning after you wake up, and before you hit the bed in the evening. This is the schedule that you must abide by. If you space out the sessions correctly, you can even get 5 or 6 done in one day without feeling any pain or discomfort. For beginners, this means that they should invert for 1-2 minutes 5-6 times per day. Intermediate users can invert for 5-minutes 6 times per day, whereas expert users can go as high as 15 minutes per session. However, they should reduce the frequency of use to 4 sessions per day to not exceed the 1-hour threshold. With inversion therapy, it’s important to never push yourself, keep this in mind. Otherwise, instead of attenuating back pain, muscle spasms, and other issues with which the therapy normally helps, you will accentuate them.
How Many Times a Week Is Inversion Therapy Recommended?
Inversion is a therapy that you use to recover from rotational, high impact, or compressive activities. This is why it’s important to do it at least two times a day – after you wake up and before you go to bed. We previously covered the recommended frequency of use within a day, now it’s time to settle how many days a week you should use the table. And the answer is every day. Pace yourself and don’t stay on longer than you feel comfortable, and you can safely perform inversion therapy every single day of the week. Doing so maximizes health benefits and makes a real difference for back pain, neck pain, scoliosis, herniated disc, and issues of the sort.
Rating Our Picks
Controlled inversion
There are plenty of factors to consider, but an essential one is whether or not the reversal angle is controllable. While most devices are geared with this feature, other models don’t come with a controllable angle. However, what you need to know is that, when starting this therapy, you must work your way up to ninety degrees gradually. A unit that permits you to modify the angle will help you carry it out at your own pace without experiencing unwanted side effects, such as nausea, headaches, or other health issues. A quality table should turn up to 180 degrees. If a device cannot turn to this angle, then it is not fit for an intense and strenuous workout. It can only help you perform moderate exercises.
Height and Weight Limit Warnings
All models have weight and height limit restrictions. As long as you don’t exceed these limits, you will stay safe and won’t risk severe injuries.
-
Weight Limit
Simply by looking at our reviewed models, you will notice that the weight limit for the majority of units is 300 lbs., but there are a few products that go as high as 350 lbs. If you surpass this limit, the unit may not be able to sustain your body mass. It can crack while using it.
-
Height Limit
Most units are crafted for tall individuals. They come with a peak user height of six feet and six inches. However, if the preset limit is exceeded, it won’t be able to sustain your body. Your head will hit the floor while using it. Consequently, use a model that is fit for someone of your height.
Safety features
Whether it is a chair, table, or other inversion equipment, it has to be safe. Most units are safe, but substandard and inadequate safety features can make this therapy extremely dangerous. Therefore, make sure you pick a model that is geared with at least one of the following safety characteristics:
- ankle locks – an essential factor to consider when acquiring this equipment is the ankle securing system. It keeps your feet in place when inverting.
- steel frame – opt for a unit with a steel structure because it is hard-wearing and has a longer lifespan.
- floor stabilizers – make sure your device has floor stabilizers to keep it in place when reversing and prevent it from skidding across the floor.
- vinyl side covers – accessories that protect your fingers and hands from being crushed between the device’s bars while inverting.
Comfort
Since the main purpose of this type of gear is to palliate back pain, ensure you opt for a comfortable unit able to supply excellent back support. If a model seems to feel uncomfortable after trying it, you should never use it again. We recommend choosing models that are geared with thick pads or memory foam back supports for the neck and lumbar region. For individuals who undergo lower back pain, we suggest the use of a unit that offers an additional lumbar sustain pad.
Ease of use
In regards to the ease of use, it is significant to understand a few things. Not every device ensures great balance and utmost control of rotation while inverting. Some of them are not precisely balanced, and their design doesn’t allow for the best control. Therefore, choose a unit that is easy to put together and use. Nobody wants to spend hours assembling a product with awful instructions. Most people prefer to buy units that can be used within minutes after setup without spending too much time watching useless instructional DVDs.
Warranty
Generally speaking, a warranty is a promise that the company stands behind its product. When it comes to recovery units, it’s essential to pick one that has more than a 3-year warranty. Many of them are covered by a 1 or 2-year warranty. Consider that a short warranty is a sign that the brand does not trust its product. Nonetheless, there are also products with relatively long warranties. For instance, you can easily find a 5-year warranty with friendly customer support that can gladly help you with any issues you may encounter.
Certifications
Certifications are guarantees reflecting the protection and value of the product. The fact that it is FDA certified is a major perk. An organization like the FDA is the only way to verify if a product can do precisely what it promises to do. The only models with FDA-cleared certification are made by Teeter. They are classified as Class 1 medical products indicated for several conditions, counting back pain, muscle cramps, sciatica, muscle strain, herniated disc, and spinal stenosis. Additionally, make sure it has third-party credentials. For the unaware, this is a stamp of approval from a dependable source that guarantees the units meet the conditions of the warranty. Furthermore, there are some UL standard tests for important safety features. The UL normally inspects the products to assure safety and quality standards are met. Nonetheless, if a product doesn’t meet all these standards and doesn’t pass the safety tests, it doesn’t receive the UL mark.

Nevertheless, this technique is not fit for individuals with heart conditions. Therefore, before using it, it’s advisable to see a doctor.
Inversion Table Exercises for Sciatica and Back Pain
When using a reversing table, in most cases, the results show up after the first therapy session. However, this doesn’t mean that your problem is solved.
Many people will use their tables for many years to come, some for the rest of their lives with frequencies that vary depending on their conditions. Sometimes, it may be necessary that they combine this type of therapy with drugs, other exercises, or even surgery.
However, if they use the inversion table correctly, it can restore their well-being, allowing them to go on with their life without having to make constant interruptions due to back pain. In this direction, we have prepared a set of exercises everyone can do to deal with the pain caused by sciatica or bad posture.
1. Getting accustomed to the inversion table
Before trying more advanced exercises, the most important goal is to get the hang of how to use the table safely. The trick is to take it slowly until you build the necessary trust to let your apparatus invert you at bigger angles.
- Establish the angle at which the table should turn by using the strap positioned underneath the table. At first, make sure it is not higher than 20 to 30 degrees.
- Lie with your back against the backrest and secure your feet with the safety mechanism. This may be a set of rollers or ankle cuffs. Check the manual for more details on your model.
- When you feel ready to turn, just lift one hand over your head, and the table will reverse at the angle you have picked.
- Spend a few minutes in this position.
2. Oscillations
Assuming that you have already got comfortable with the table, the first exercise you should try is oscillations. For this to work, you should increase the incline angle up to 40-60 degrees.
- Lift one hand to make the table reverse to the maximum angle you have set it.
- Slowly lower your hand to make it return to the initial position. If this seems too difficult, you can use the handles to lift yourself back.
- Keep oscillating for a few minutes multiple times a day.
3. Sit-Ups
These sets of exercises will help you strengthen your core, which will further help you maintain a better posture and reduce the pain in your lower back.
- Set the table at an angle of 25-30 degrees and lie on it, securing your legs.
- Put your hands behind your head and use them for support.
- Slowly lift your torso as far as you can and try to hold the position for a few seconds.
- Return to the initial position and repeat.
4. Stretch
Stretching helps you decompress your spine and obtain better mobility. For this movement, you need to set the apparatus at a maximum angle of 60 degrees.
- Take your position on the apparatus.
- Very slowly extend your arms over your head and try to touch the floor with your fingertips.
- Maintain this pose for as long as you can, then lower your hands to get back in the initial position.
5 Inversion Therapy without Table Alternatives
If you have already tried an inversion table and it didn’t seem to do the trick for you, or it felt just too intense, there’s no need to panic. There are other methods out there that can help you decompress your spine and reduce the pain that has been clutching your back muscles lately, and we have gathered 5 of the most efficient, so let’s take a look at them:
Inversion Chair
Inspired by the design of inversion tables, the chair functions basically on the same principle with the distinction that it isn’t that difficult to get in and out of it. Instead of taking a vertical position before the turning, you will be able to sit and lock your ankle mechanism without effort. Then, the chair may turn into a table as you reach towards the selected inversion angle or incline while your knees remain bent and you are still in a seat. It is considered the best choice for individuals who are injured or have reduced mobility.
Pilates Ball
By far cheaper than any other inversion equipment, a Pilates ball can help you stretch your back and do inclined poses at home. You won’t be able to turn to 60 or 90 degrees, but a small angle can be just the right thing for some people. It will help you do and maintain poses in which your feet are raised above your head, which is, in the end, the purpose of inversion therapy.
Yoga Headstand Bench
This is not the most accessible pose, and you need to be in shape to be able to pull it through. Specialists don’t recommend it for individuals who have glaucoma, high blood pressure, or heart issue, so you should check with your doctor first. If you get the approval, this may be the best way (and cheaper) to put an end to back pains. To use the bench, you need to place your head inside the padded opening and grab the bench legs with your hands to support your body while raising your legs to a vertical position.
Yoga Trapeze
Once again, a method that is not for everyone. To use a yoga trapeze, you should already be accustomed to intermediate or advanced Yoga poses and have good strength in your arms and legs. The trapeze allows you to hang from the ceiling with your head down while having your legs wrapped around the leg holders. It also has a section for your hands you can grab to maintain balance and turn around when the session is completed.
Yoga Inversion
This method doesn’t require any equipment at all besides maybe a yoga mat, and it is safe to try for most individuals, except those suffering from glaucoma or heart issues. It consists of a series of poses that will bring your head below your heart level and help you stretch your spinal area. Among the most popular asanas, you can find the Downward-facing dog, Child’s pose, or Forward fold pose.

Editor’s Choice:
Innova Health and Fitness ITX9800
Just like Teeter and IRONMAN, Innova is a brand that has impressed chiropractors with the sheer volume of high-end inversion therapy tables it has released. While other entries from this brand are equally great acquisitions, this specific model stands out as the best at the moment for the upgrades it has received in terms of design and comfort in use. What impressed us most during tests is the product’s stability, hands down. Even at the peak inverting angle, our colleague James, who weighs 270 lbs. and is 6’4” didn’t make it wobble or move an inch. Other than this, we were wowed by the thick padding of the headrest and back support that makes the time spent decompressing as pleasant as possible. The initiated might even feel tempted to doze off a bit when using it.
Best Inversion Table with Heat and Massage:
Body Xtreme Fitness
Few models integrate massage and heat functions, and this is the best to feature them, hands down. Because of these two features that go hand in hand for fixing a range of health issues, you will see major improvement when it comes to blood circulation and muscle soreness relief, among other perks. That pesky tension in your body will go away and you will move just like you did in your twenties, all by simply inverting regularly with this model.

Best Inversion Table for Tall Person:
Stamina 55-1550 InLine
While there are other models that cater to people as tall as 6’6” like this Stamina InLine entry does, what makes this product the best in this specific category is that it’s much more comfortable for tall users. Our colleague Mark can attest to that since he is 6’6” and was our main player for testing products suited for tall individuals. Other than this, the Stamina InLine is fitted with rubber floor protectors that double as stabilizers, so balance and safety while using it are guaranteed.
Best Inversion Table for Heavy Person:
IRONMAN Gravity 5000
The IRONMAN series products are some the most well known among chiropractors for their durability, the impressive inversion range, and comfy experience that patients go through during use. In terms of accommodating heavy individuals, the Gravity 5000 is the go-to product recommended by experts since it can hold users who weigh 350 pounds tops. Needless to say, this shows a lot about the quality of the steel used in its manufacturing.
Best Inversion Table for Back Pain:
Health Gear ITM5500
The decompression session you profit from is what makes it perfect for neck and back pain relief. We tested all the products before reviewing them, but this is the product that made most of us feel a real difference even after short 2-3 minute inversion therapy sessions. Aside from our personal experience with this Health Gear product, we also considered the overwhelming positive reception it has received from users from this point of view. Moreover, since it features massage and heat functions, you can benefit from it in more ways than one and use it for ultimate relaxation.
Best Inversion Table for the Money:
XtremepowerUS Premium Gravity
What defines a value product is the price to quality ratio that must be fair. This is what the XtremepowerUS offers, an inversion therapy product that you can have for cheap as opposed to our top picks. Sure, it doesn’t have a massage function and the backrest padding is a bit poorer, but let’s face it, it saves you a lot of money upfront (it costs less than $150). Add to the tempting price tag the fact that people who weigh 300 lbs. can use it and that the surface seats a 6’4” tall individual just fine, and you can see why we’re adamant about it being a great deal.
